The article investigates the motivations of European student-athletes pursuing dual careers—balancing elite sports with academic studies. Through a cross-national survey, the study identifies key factors influencing student-athletes’ motivation, including personal development, future employment prospects, and support systems. It highlights notable differences based on gender, country, and type of sport. The findings emphasize the importance of tailored support structures to sustain athletes’ motivation and success in both athletic and academic domains. The paper contributes to the development of evidence-based dual career policies across Europe.
