Factors impacting carded athlete's readiness for dual careers
Description
This study investigates the challenges faced by New Zealand's carded athletes in pursuing careers alongside their elite sport commitments. Through interviews with 17 athletes, it reveals that despite available support, factors such as lifestyle demands, career stage, and the sport environment often hinder dual career engagement. The findings emphasize the need for career programs to better encourage and enable athletes to balance sport with personal development, promoting both athletic performance and long-term well-being.
