This review critically examines European dual career (DC) research from 2015 to 2018, analyzing 42 studies to assess current trends and gaps. It situates DC research within both the athlete career sport psychology and European policy contexts. Key findings highlight underexplored areas such as dual careers in sport and work, the personal costs of DCs, mental health, and the need for better support systems and training for those assisting athletes. The study calls for future research to address these gaps to better inform dual career practices and policies across Europe.
