The VUB-hosted FEPSAC Position Statement presents a comprehensive review of "dual careers" (DC) among European athletes. Drawing on the European Commission’s 2012 DC guidelines, it synthesizes decades of research into seven core themes, context, transitions, challenges, resources, support, mental health, and development environments, and outlines how these factors affect athletes' ability to excel in both sport and education or work. The statement concludes by identifying key knowledge gaps and offering recommendations to inform future research, practice, and policy aimed at fostering well-rounded athlete development across Europe.
