Dual Career Balance in Student-Athletes University Transition
Description
This is a poster abstract presented at the AASP (Association for Applied Sport Psychology) conference in 2016, focusing on dual career balance for student-athletes during university transition. The study investigated how student-athletes manage balancing multiple life domains, including sports, studies, personal life, and social interactions 1. The research involved 23 Swedish university student-athletes representing six different sports, who completed the Dual Career Monitoring Survey (DCMS) weekly over twelve weeks. Using intra-class correlation analysis and dynamic P-technique, the researchers explored individual variations in career balance, finding that balance is highly idiosyncratic, with 86% of variance due to within-person changes. The study aims to contribute to understanding dual career balance from a holistic perspective, suggesting that practitioners should consider individual dynamics when supporting student-athletes' transitions.
