This Child Safeguarding Policy has been developed by UEFA, in close cooperation with UEFA’s member associations and safeguarding consultant Terre des hommes. The policy builds on other important projects that aim to protect children, such as the International Safeguarding Children in Sport Initiative and the Keeping Children Safe Coalition, as well as the efforts that are already being made by many of UEFA’s member associations.
The policy reaffirms and strengthens UEFA’s commitment to ensuring that football is a safe, positive and enjoyable experience for all children involved in the game, regardless of their age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and social background, religion, and level of ability or disability.
It articulates the key principles that underpin UEFA’s approach to child safeguarding and the various actions and commitments that are used to implement that approach. This reflects UEFA’s belief in the role that football can play in promoting the development, health and well- being of children, while at the same time acknowledging that there have been instances globally where children have been harmed because of their involvement in football and other sports.
